Hampstead Heath

London, 2019
Residential

A large early twentieth century family home nestled on a quiet corner of Hampstead Heath. The house’s original Arts and Crafts bones had unfortunately been long stripped out to make way for a more suburban layout, which we extended and opened up further adding changes of level to zone areas. The palette is neutral, earthy and textured.

To the rear of the main house is a single-story terrace perched on the remnants of an eighteenth century ornamental grotto, thought to have formed part of the grounds of the since destroyed Golders Hill Mansion. We followed its undulating form in the design of an angular glass, charred larch and verdigris copper garden room, creating a near-covered passage through the caves.
